Habitat For Humanity Benefit Concert

It’s always a pleasure to sing in a House of Worship. Even more so when it’s for a cause that’s bigger than you. When I was asked to perform at the Habitat For Humanity’s benefit concert, I immediately said yes. Knowing the pang of homelessness, I could not deny the opportunity to support an organization that seeks to give a simple solution to a complex and growing problem. Build a house. Seems simple right? Easier said than done. “Students Against Hunger” is another organization doing it’s best to combat hunger and homelessness in the U.S.A. Here are some of the staggering statistics from S.A.H. related to those who are homeless in America.

  • In the U.S., more than 3.5 million people experience homelessness each year.
  • 35% of the homeless population are families with children, which is the fastest growing segment of the homeless population.
  • 23% are U.S. military veterans.
  • 25% are children under the age of 18 years.
  • 30% have experienced domestic violence.
  • 20-25% suffer from mental illness.
  • In urban communities, people experience homelessness for an average of eight months.

There is a great need for those individuals that are homeless and hungry living in America. It takes a tremendous amount of funding and the hands of eager volunteers to meet that need. I hope the snippets of this concert inspires you, and causes you to find out what you can do to help Habitat For Humanity and other organiztions like it.
